Derks’ research is focused on the effects of stigma and threats to social identity on wellbeing and physiology. She has also conducted various studies into the remuneration differences between men and women in academia. Derks has acquired prestigious personal (e.g., VENI, VIDI) as well as consortium (e.g., Horizon Europe, NWA) grants. She is past chair of the KNAW Young Academy and elected fellow of the Association of Psychological Sciences. She frequently advises Dutch as well as European governments on gender equality at work and diversity in academia. Derks chairs the Kurt Lewin Institute, the Dutch graduate school in Social and Organizational Psychology.
