SOCIAL COHESION – TOWARDS A NEW FABRIC OF SOCIETY

Basak Bilecen

Dr. Basak Bilecen
Professor of Sociology
University of Groningen

Bilecen uses qualitative interviews and personal network analysis to study the personal connections of migrants, the content of their life worlds (i.e., differences in education, work and family life, healthcare in different countries), and the influence of personal networks on the ways in which protective resources flow across borders. Bilecen received a John F. Kennedy Memorial fellowship from Harvard University and a Rosalind Franklin fellowship. She is co-PI of MIG AGE, an international Volkswagen Foundation grant, and PI of an UNHCR project on understanding refugee-led organizations. She chairs the Dutch Association for Migration Research.
