Koc studies how disadvantaged groups navigate their identities through privileged systems, using multimethod research that combines correlational exploratory studies with experiments and advanced qualitative and ethnographic research. In his research, he collaborates with a wide range of societal stakeholders. In 2022, Koc was selected as one of the Association for Psychological Science’s Rising Stars. He is associate editor of the British Journal of Social Psychology and editorial board member for the European Journal of Social Psychology.
