Bernstein’s research is focused on ethical and political questions that arise during collective action problems (e.g.related to infectious diseases and dietary patterns). He is interested in the connection between public health and public goods, and develops theories of political legitimacy. Bernstein is strong in interdisciplinary research and promoting societal impact, as evidenced by his many public lectures and his contributions to white papers and ethics guidelines. At VU, he coordinates the Master’s program Philosophy, Bioethics and Health.
