I am a PhD candidate at the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Groningen. Before coming to Groningen, I completed a Research Master’s programme in Philosophy at the University of Amsterdam and, before that, a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics at Utrecht University.
My PhD project, supervised by Professors Frank Hindriks and Martijn van Zomeren, centres on the question of the fragility of the social contract in the context of liberal democracies facing polarisation, societal fragmentation, and underlying issues surrounding identity. Examining whether and how we should move towards a new formulation of the social contract and what role social cohesion should play in such a reformulation is the main objective of my project. Like every SOCION project, to this end I adopt an interdisciplinary approach by combining a philosophical normative assessment with the empirical findings from social psychology.
