About Sebastián

I am a PhD candidate in the Department of Sociology at the University of Groningen within the SOCION project. Prior starting my PhD journey, I completed my Master’s degree in Local Development at the University of Padua, Italy, and my Bachelor’s degree in Geography at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. So far, my research has been focused on migration, social inequalities, development studies, and spatial analysis, topics linked to my interdisciplinary background.

Within SOCION I am part of the research Cluster 1: Migration, Identity and Belonging, where I am studying older migrants family networks and how their heterogeneity can affect relevant outcomes such as health, well-being, and loneliness in later life under the supervision of Başak Bilecen and Vera de Bel from the University of Groningen, and Swantje Falcke from the University of Utrecht. Beyond research, I have experience in socio territorial consultancy, urban development projects, and science communication.
