About Lisa

I work at the intersection of political philosophy and economic thought. I have held my position at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Groningen since 2019. Between 2021 and 2025, I served as Director of the Center for Philosophy, Politics and Economics, and since January 2023, I have been Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy.

I hold a master’s degree (Diplom) in economics from LMU Munich, as well as an M.St. in Philosophy and a D.Phil. in Political Theory from the University of Oxford, where I was a Rhodes Scholar. I have worked at or visited the universities of St. Gallen (CH), Leuven (BE), Frankfurt/Main (DE), Utrecht (NL), and Stanford (US), and I have held fellowships at the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin and the Hamburg Institute for Advanced Study. I was a member of the Young Academy Groningen and the Global Young Academy, where I led the SCISO project. I am currently a member of De Jonge Akademie, and since 2023 a member of the Royal Holland Academy of the Sciences and Humanities, and from 2025, a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences.

I have published on the philosophical dimensions of markets, both historical and systemic, as well as on liberalism and social justice, ethics in organizations, and the future of work. My current research focuses on workplace democracy, professional ethics, and the role of knowledge in democracies. I am co-editor of the interdisciplinary journal Review of Social Economy, and my forthcoming monograph is entitled Citizen Knowledge: Markets, Experts, and the Infrastructure of Democracy.
